At the Air Cargo Summit In Jarkarta, Indonesia in May, an event that was supported by Cargo iQ, it was reported that Indonesia’s e-commerce boom is creating great opportunities for air freight.
It was reported by CargoiQ that the market for e-commerce in Indonesia will supposedly be worth $130 billion by 2020, ranking behind only China and India.
The report remarks: “members of the air cargo community in the region are rapidly developing new services to link the country’s increasingly mobile-savvy population of over 250 million, spread over more than 13,000 islands.”
“As one of South East Asia’s largest economies, Indonesia has a promising future for its air cargo and logistics industry,” said Tengku Burhanuddin, Secretary General of the Indonesia National Air Carriers’ Association (INACA), Cargo iQ reported.
“In response to the many new opportunities, Air Cargo Summit Indonesia 2017 is the first platform to bring together air cargo decision makers and experts from around the world to address and discuss current industry developments and issues,” stated Burhanuddin.
At Soekarno-Hatta International airport in Jakarta, cargo traffic at the terminal topped 700,00 tonnes last year – an increase in 7.6% from the previous year.
Volumes are expected to grow to 1.5 million tonnes over the course of the next few years.
